Costa Rica day -1

Blogging this from my N95. Have decided to go 12 days without a laptop and wifi. Just my N95, E62 and Panasonic DMC-FZ20. Would i survive? Tune in to find out :-) Maybe i'll enjoy being disconnected after all. I've been staring too much at computer screens anyway (even when i'm sleeping, i usually have my laptop screens staring back at me…). So a break might do me some good, like being immersed in nature. In areas that might not even have cellular signals… Gasp. Nature and i have a history of not getting along too well but we'll give it another chance and see what happens on this trip. Will i be reluctant or eager to return to civilization after 12 days? Your guess is as good as mine. Bye (for now) to one of my laptops here… Btw anyone knows the significance of these few keys captured in this pic? :-p

Tell us two truths and a lie about yourself.

  • I have an alter ego and sometimes we don't get along
  • I have a phobia of fire, a.k.a. pyrophobia
  • I have more than forty pairs of shoes

ThoughtFix over at TabletBlog.com invited me for a video chat. At first I wanted to ask a friend to help because I don't like seeing my face on video (esp. publicly on the internet)… or maybe use a teddy bear or hand puppet in my place… but he's kind enough not to put my mugshot online. So we went ahead and did it…

We fired up our N800's, mine's connected via WiFi, and his – here's the twist – is linked to his Moto Q by Bluetooth and connected via Verizon's EV-DO. (But kids, don't try that at home. You'd be violating Verizon's TOS.) How well does it work? I can see and hear him quite clearly. We do get some dropped video frames and choppy audio from time to time but nothing bad enough to break the flow of conversation. He wasn't able to see me that well but the problem is not the connections or gadgets – I just didn't have my lights on. ;) I had no problems with the images flipping when the camera was rotated. All in all I think it was a successful and fun test!

Got this from a co-worker. Makes me REALLY want to go to Switzerland this summer. I’m sure the ladies will agree with me. Ok, maybe the gents too, as I suppose some of you are also interested…. in Switzerland ;)

Ah, I need to use this clip to do more testing at work. Write a line of code, compile, test it 10 times. Repeat. Yeah yeah that’s right, I work really hard!!
