If you have a couple of Nokia Internet Tablets lying around (I wish I did…), you can build and control this puppy robot. Instructions here and project webpage here. This video shows puppy robot’s head being upgraded from 770 to N800. Rest of kepleri’s videos can be found on YouTube.

They need a name for the puppy! My suggestions were Tekopup and Gougoubot. Teko = artificial in Finnish (plus it sounds like “techo”), and Gougou = puppy in Chinese. Not very imaginative I suppose… please leave them a comment if you have better ideas!

Robot bartender

A man walked into a very high-tech bar. As he sat down on a stool he noticed that the bartender was a robot. The robot clicked to attention and asked, "Sir, what will you have?"

The man thought a moment then replied? "A martini please."

The robot clicked a couple of times and mixed the best martini the man had ever had.

The robot then asked, "Sir, what is your IQ?"

The man answered "Oh, about 164."

The robot then proceeded to discuss the 'theory of relativity', inter-stellar space travel', the latest medical breakthroughs, etc…

The man was most impressed. He left the bar but thought he would try different tact.

He returned and took a seat. Again the robot clicked and asked what he would have? "A martini please."

Again it was superb. The robot again asked "What is your IQ sir?"

This time the man answered, "Oh about 100". So the robot started discussing NASCAR racing, the latest basketball scores, and what to expect the Dodgers to do this week end.

The guy had to try it one more time. So he left, returned and took a stool….

Again a martini, and the question, "What is your IQ?"

This time the man drawled out "Uh….. Bout 50".

The robot clicked then leaned close and very slowly asked,
 "A-r-e…
 Y-o-u-r…
 P-e-o-p-l-e..
 G-o-i-n-g…
 T-o…
 N-o-m-i-n-a-t-e…
 H-i-l-l-a-r-y?????

Officially the Desktop Hobby Robot, Plen is such a cutie!! Check out Plen in action by clicking the Gallery tab on the website. Such smooth moves…

He is powered by a 32-bit ARM7 CPU, and apparently has Bluetooth and USB connection support. Can't quite make out the Japanese, but it seems like you can program him and control him with your cell phone. Or perhaps he controls the cell phone? Haha… or use it as a skateboard. Although you'll need to install some wheels/rollers on the cell phone first.

Other things Plen can do to amuse you includes picking up objects and tossing them, doing karate kicks, skating forwards AND backwards, and even getting up by itself after falling.

How much would you pay for this three-quarter ft tall "toy"? Try one-quarter million yen. Thats more than $2000 in USD. Pricey, to say the least… but why do I have an irrational desire to get one? Maybe I should get a robotics kit and try building my own robot instead. But I doubt I'll be able to come up with something close to Plen, plus those kits aren't cheap either.

Oh well, my N95 isn't Plen, but it's PLENty amusement and entertainment for me already!
